Washington, D.C. InDesign User GroupMeeting Notes Archive
Wednesday, March 24, 2004
Another success was scored on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 when the DC-Area InDesign User Group presented Lynn Grillo and Janet Frick. The evening began with the usual sign-in and refreshment hour where attendees munched on cookies and brownies while slurping down soft drinks and water. Some people bemoaned the lack of pizza, so we hereby announce that as soon as someone steps forward to sponsor the pizzas, they will return. Could that someone be you?
Lynn Grillo from Adobe Systems wowed the crowd of nearly 60 attendees with her demonstration of some of the capabilities of Adobe GoLive CSAdobe's web authoring tool. The way by which InDesign files can be directly imported into GoLive was shown. However, most of the time was spent showing the capabilities of GoLive. Applause, cheers and an occasional “Wow!” were heard from the group as they were amazed and impressed. Lynn’s enthusiastic (to say the least) presentation kept everybody entertained and informed.
Following Lynn, Janet Frick of Training Resources LLC reviewed the ins and outs of transparencies. She showed several of the major issues that could occur when trying to get pages with transparencies to print correctly. It became clear that while transparency is one of InDesign’s strongest features it should be used with thought and consideration. The other key point made was the importance of working closely with your print provider. The print provider is part of the team needed to make sure things get printed right. Transparency requires knowledge of the RIP used and only the printer can provide that.
Some of the more positive comments left by the attendees included:
“Fabulous!”
“The GoLive presentation was jaw-dropping!”
“Awesome!”
“One word, Great!”
“Very Informative, again. Almost too short!”
“Terrific. Lots to think about.”
Other attendees suggested we leave more time for questions & answers. Others wanted more detailed sessions on transparency.
Drawing held at the end of the evening produced a number of winners, including Doris Mason and Ron Schwartz, who each won a copy of InDesign CS and Paula Danko who left with a copy of GoLive CS.
