What a great way to start the year. Two of our favorite speakers will be presenting: our own (though we have to share her with Adobe) Noha Edell and the reigning transparency queen, Claudia McCue. The first half of the evening will feature Noha covering some of the new features of InDesign CS4, specifically Conditional text, Smart Text Reflow, Cross References and GREP styles. In this segment: * Learn how to use conditional text to quickly build variants of technical manuals, student/teacher textbook editions, or multi-language publications within a single InDesign source file. * Observe smart text reflow and the automatic insertion or deletion of pages when implementing conditional text. * Improve technical accuracy and streamline production with cross-references that update when you change content or rearrange text within a document. * Automate the formatting of text by adding GREP styles to your paragraph styles. The second half of the evening will feature a live Adobe Connect session with Claudia McCue demonstrating her favorite InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat tips and techniques. What she will present is valid for previous versions of CS as well as CS, so you don’t have to have CS4 to benefit. We are one lucky group to have two of the very best. The Answer Desk “The Answer Desk” will be open for your toughest InDesign questions. During the refreshment hour, “The Answer Desk” will be staffed by professional trainers provided by EEI Communications and our own membership. Bring your InDesign questions to these folks and get an answer while chewing on a slice of pizza. This is a perfect time to ask those questions you don’t want to bring up before a group. Challenge them! Bring it on!! They’re ready for you. Of course, there will be plenty of food and drink before the meeting starts. And, we’ll close the meeting with drawings for lots of goodies including software, books and t-shirts and more. Discount evening parking is available in the building (garage entrance on D Street) and at other nearby buildings. Parking meter enforcement extends to 9:30pm, so skip the meters.
