Meeting details

You can never have too much of a good thing—chocolate, fine wine and Michael Murphy. We’ve “induced” Michael to come back to headline our April 30 meeting with an abbreviated version of his renowned session on GREP.

GREP is not part of the Klingon language, though Michael claims it is. It stands for “General Regular Expression Parser.” OK, keep reading, don’t stop now.

GREP is “Find & Replace” on steroids. It’s a tool that not only allows incredibly sophisticated text changes; you can look for object attributes (such as color, strokes, etc.).

While GREP may seem “geeky” (well, I guess it is geeky), it’s an extremely useful tool for those of us that have to take text created by other people or dumped on us from databases. I think that includes just about everybody. So, if you spend a lot of time just getting your text into a condition that allows you to do your real job, this is another of those “don’t miss” sessions.

Real-Time Q&A
=============
After Michael finishes his GREP presentation, he will be joined by Noha and some of our remaining “Answer Desk” people to respond to your questions. If possible, send your questions to Ken Chaletzky (ken@copygeneral.com) in advance If you want to send any relevant files, please do so.

==================
The Answer Desk
==================
"The Answer Desk" is now a regular feature of the DC-Area InDesign User Group. During the refreshment hour, The Answer Desk will be staffed by professional trainers provided by EEI Communications and our own membership. Bring your InDesign questions to these folks and get an answer while chewing on a slice of pizza. This is a perfect time to ask those questions you don't want to bring up before a group. Challenge them! Bring it on!! They're ready for you.

Of course, there will be plenty of food and drink before the meeting starts.

=========================
Agenda

WBP Book Design & Effectiveness Awards

Our friends at The Washington Book Publishers have announced their call for entries for the 2008 Book Design & Effectiveness Awards. There’s no reason the majority of award winners shouldn’t have been created using InDesign. Check out www.washingtonbooks.org for more information. Entries must be received by April 25, so don’t wait.
