Vicky opened up a whole new world for me! Thank you!
Meeting Summary: Accessible Content Workflow with Adobe InDesign CS4 and Adobe Acrobat 9
Tue, Mar 16th, 2010 at 6:00 PM
U.S. Navy Memorial Auditorium
Event DetailsSpring finally arrived and not soon enough for most of the winter-weary DC-IDUG members. We started the meeting with the usual assortment of drinks, pizza, fruit and cookies. Lots of discussions amongst the attendees while waiting for the event to start.
The March meeting was dedicated to Accessibility, a topic of growing interest and concern to many of our members. The meeting started with a presentation by Greg Pisocky, a leading member of Adobe’s accessibility team. He gave a technical overview of the issues in meeting legal requirements for accessibility and the tools available within InDesign and Acrobat.
Vicky Richards of the Social Security Administration wowed us with real-world applications. She showed us what could be done and where there are still some gaps in what’s available. Vicky showed us how preparing documents in advance can make things easier while she took us step-by-step through the process of making a document accessible. By the end of the presentation, even those of us who started out quite confused came away with enough knowledge to realize that we could make our documents accessible. Now we just need to get out there and do it.
(BTW, Vicky's files are available for download at the bottom of this page.)
We concluded the evening by raffling off a number of books, EEI training sessions, magazine subscriptions and, of course, a copy of InDesign CS4.
If you weren’t there, you missed a great meeting. Just look at the comments below.
