Event Details We held our third Vancouver InDesign User Group meeting on Wednesday, Oct 8th, 2008. The evening was a great success with nearly 90 members attending. The meeting was held at the Vancouver Film School theater. Sebastian Distefano of Adobe once again wowed the audience as he showcased the new features in Adobe Bridge CS4 and InDesign CS4. The meeting began with an introduction by Jeff Kew, as he refreshed new and returning members' memories of some of the great online resources currently available:

(new InDesign CS4 training)

(new CS4 articles)

(Adobe's free online tech support forums)

(Adobe's free video training library)
Sebastian Distefano continued the evening discussing the new features of Adobe Bridge CS4 and how it interacts with InDesign. Seb then spent a great deal of time in InDesign CS4 showing off some important new features like:
Conditional Text
Flash Interactivity and Export
Animated Page Transitions
Cross-References
Live Preflight
Spread Rotation
Smart Text Reflow
Smart Guides
Smart Alignment and Spacing
We concluded by drawing evaluation forms from a box to give away books from Peachpit, O'Reilly, Focal Press, DVDs from NAPP and Stock Layouts template packs. We had a certificate from TPH for free business card printing and we gave away 2 copies of Font Agent Pro from Insider Software. There were also Adobe promo t-shirts for giveaways. The big draw was for one copy of Adobe InDesign CS4. It was won by a very happy member who said she now has an excuse to upgrade from her G3! Thank YouMany thanks to Adobe for their ongoing and generous support. Without them we wouldn't be having these meetings. Thanks again to all of our partners for support and raffle prizes:

A special thank-you to Sebastian Distefano for going the extra miles to be with us (over 3000 of them). Also a special thanks to our volunteers who put these meetings together; Jeff Kew, Trish Anderson, Regina Leung and Miles Harrison. And last but not least, thanks to everyone who came out for this event and gave us their generous feedback. Upcoming Industry EventsThere are two upcoming conferences focusing on Adobe products and I would encourage those of you that can manage it, to try and attend one. Travelling to a new location and being immersed in a learning environment amongst your peers is one of the best ways to become a better software user.
