Event DetailsThank you to everyone that made it out to the Adobe InDesign User Group meeting on Monday. Based on the feedback I have heard, the meeting was right on the money for a lot of you.
For those of you that missed the meeting, I will recap some of the important points here. The meeting started off with Sebastian explaining some of the issues and concerns that we must deal with when working with vector-based transparency for a print production world. Sebastian offered some great tips on how to design smarter, so that your transparency will be less likely to cause problems when flattened for output. Within InDesign, Sebastian showed us how we can use the Flattener Preview in InDesign to check our work before output. One thing we need to remember is that some transparency effects may not look correct when a PDF is opened in Acrobat. To see how the job will actually print, we need to use the output preview feature of Acrobat to get a true picture of the final outcome.
After a short break, Jason talked about some of the advances with PDF-X4 and the Adobe PDF Print Engine that allow us to look at an entirely different workflow with relation to transparency. PDF-X4's ability to handle an RGB colour-managed workflow and keep transparencies unflattened, moves us into a whole new realm of late-binding workflow. We saw some real-world example of how efficiencies can be improved with this type of advancement.
The meeting ended with a lot of great questions and discussions, and with one of our very own members walking away with a full version of CS4 Design Premium! For those of you that could not make it out, as always, we look forward to seeing you at one of future meetings. For everyone that did make it out on Monday, thank you for helping to make the meeting informative and interactive.
All the best,
Jason Lisi
