September 24, 2007

On Monday, September 24, 2007, 60+ Tampa Bay IDUG members came to the International Academy of Design and Technology Tampa to see a presentation by Kerstin Upmeyer on Design Typography Basics.

Kerstin highlighted the different categories of type, their characteristics (size, weight, structure, form, color, and direction) and talked about the appropriateness of type. She also briefly covered good type used for body copy and for headlines. Finally, she concluded her presentation by taking questions from the audience and recommending a great book to pick up, “The Non-Designer’s Design Book” by Robin Williams.

Some comments included:

“Great Presentation, Great Presenter, Clear and Interesting.”
—Keith L.

“As a beginner the typography topic was very useful and the speaker was very good.”
—Leslie S.

“Tonight’s meeting was very helpful. Learning a lot about typography and what visually looks good and works well is very important.”
—Evelyn C.
