Our first meeting of 2007 was a huge success, with over 56 people in attendance and attendees coming from as far as Jacksonville, FL (just over 200 miles away)! All who attended were able to pick up some print materials on Adobe InDesign CS2, a copy of Introduction to Total Training, and a free copy of Layers magazine.

We started the evening with a tour of the Art Institute, a few introductions, and additional information about the user group followed by a presentation by Noha Edell. Noha began her presentation with an overview of new features of Acrobat 8 for creative and print professionals. These features include an improved user interface, new Combine Files & PDF Packages features, and interactive forms. She ended her presentation by showing the group how to instantly communicate with others via Acrobat Connect.

Our second speaker of the night was Tampa Bay InDesign User Group member Ron Anderson. Ron covered image-editing ethics. He went over some of the techniques that could be used to manipulate images, thus giving false information. He discussed upsampling and downsampling, and ended his presentation with showing the group how he inserts high-quality equations into InDesign. While Microsoft has an Equation Editor, Ron recommends using Design Sciences’ MathType 5 program for these advanced equations.
