Our first meeting was a huge success. We had over 50 persons in attendance. All who attended were able to pick up some print materials on Adobe InDesign CS2, a copy of Introduction to Total Training, and a free copy of Layers magazine. A great thanks goes to Matt Kloskowski of NAPP for bringing the Layers magazine.

Chapter representative Sarah Schweiger welcomed everyone to the first Tampa Bay InDesign user group meeting. Sarah introduced Amy Boyer, Director of Career Services at the International Academy of Design & Technology. Amy gave a little introduction and a quick run down of the different educational opportunities at the school. It was also noted that at the next meeting members would be interested in taking a tour of the school.

Noha Edell of Adobe Systems gave an overview of the InDesign user group website and the new features of InDesign CS2. Noha specifically went into great detail about Photoshop® layers support, Adobe Bridge, and object styles, and those who stayed after 9:00 were entertained by anchored objects and snippets.

The evening concluded with a huge raffle, with the prizes ranging from books, T-shirts, and DVDs and a copy of InDesign CS2. Our thanks to the sponsors for providing the raffle prizes and for their special discounts for our members. Our sponsors were:

Based on some of the comments from the meeting, it looks like many of you would like to see more presentations on InDesign on topics such as dealing with specific color limitations, Layers, data merge, database publishing using XML, integration of Photoshop with InDesign, shortcuts in InDesign, interactive PDFs, converting files that were made in Quark into InDesign, creating PDFs and the workflow behind this, and magazine layout. Many of you also wanted to cover more of Adobe’s product line, including the programs it just acquired, such as Flash and Dreamweaver.
