Event DetailsThis was one of our most exciting meetings to date, with several enthusiastic presentations from the experts:

CS5 Top 10 New Features
1: Presentation Mode use the key command and shift w
- Open the Mini Bridge - will show the linked files, navigation and missing fonts
- A folder with the document and linked files tells what fonts are missing and will activate the fonts as you go
- Select pages in the file, choose 2 frames, can move at the same time
- Group text
- Can change order of files click and drag file
- If file is locked can’t change it
2: Typography
- Click text has a spring loaded key board short cut
- A paragraph can span 2 columns automatically
- Columns can be split automatically
- Can delete a line of type and text will automatically adjust
- Track changes: The Story Editor shows the changes, time, date and who made the changes
3: Layout – go to the Mini Bridge
- Find images want to use, choose images you want
- Press the right arrow key to get 2 columns
- Press the up arrow key and get 4 rows
- Place the images, they are automatically adjusted to the columns and rows
- Gridify, a new tool, can adjust space between the grids
4: Frame – a new container tool
- Auto adjusts image to fit frame proportionally
- Has a disk in center of image to click on and move the image around making changes automatically to fit the frame
- Don’t need to change tools the arrow tool can do the same work as other tools
5: Gap tool – controls the white space between images
- Will increase or reduce the white space between images
- Option click gives yellow boxes to the corners of an image for adjustments: The corners can be changed to concave or convex curves or just about any shape desired
6: Live captions
- Pulls metadata into the layout; metadata can’t change, but you can add to it
- Can create a line of text as long as the image and when they are touching it makes the text live
- Live option can style the whole line, but not a single word
7: PDF
- Can be interactive – supports an SWF file
- Or supports a print document
8: Interactive document
- A new panel with animation
- Previews as an SWF file
9: Builds animation
- Has presets the work with Flash CS5
- Has timing panels
- Can adjust what movement comes first
- Can make slide shows with animation
10: Videos – Makes FIV video files

Sandee Cohen gave a CS4 tip
- Open 2 tabs, can place them side by side and be able to switch, which tab is on which side
- Highlight text with a yellow highlighter
- Select highlight frame and drag it over the text that you want to highlight, next go to the color swatches choose yellow, go to effects, choose multiply, and then choose the gradient feather tool, and go to the opacity to adjust the percentage of the opacity and then use the gradient tool to adjust the direction of the color. When you are done go to the styles and make yellow highlighter stroke a style to use at another time.

- Page tool transforms a page or objects, but not directly
- Select the page tool–it will rotate, scale, transform and adjust the object to fit the page
- It will also rotate, scale, transform and adjust the page
- This tool could be used for three dimensional package design, a point of sale display or even a pop-up
- Shearing: Can make an object look interlocking like links in a chain

- Can make slide show in InDesign – James called it the “Ken Burns effect”

- Best practice for PDF workflow
- Can have multiple page sizes in one file
- From cover, spine and body text all in one file
- Can move a page in a page for layout
- Front page, spine and back page
- Add bleed all the way around
- Preflight – profiles – check for page size
- Don’t have to check, it is automatically done for you
- Exports to a PDF file
