Allycia got the meeting started after all had a wonderful sandwich dinner.
Lisa Forrester from Adobe showed how to create a brochure in InDesign®. Lisa started off by talking about InDesign preferences. InDesign is now at 3.0.1-Update. You can nest graphics into text converted to outlines, as Lisa demonstrated.
Tips and Techniques
Scaling: Scale objects and frame at the same time (Command + Shift) then drag frame to scale. With direct-select tool, scale only the object and keep the frame the same size. Change the shape of a frame by using the direct-select tool, and then move the points to create the desired shape.
Eyedropper Tool: Double-clicking on tool will bring up the Options window.
Customizing your workspace: Show the palettes you use most often to save working area.
Palettes: A right-side arrow pulls up the fly-out menu, which allows you to customize the palette and access additional palette options.
Master pages: You can have multiple masters. You can also use another master as a base.
Customize keyboard shortcuts: There are shortcuts for PageMaker 7.0 (if you use the Pagemaker® Plug-in Pack or InDesign CS PageMaker Edition) and QuarkXPress 4.0.
Text import options: Allows you to customize text import options, including platform and dictionary.
Text threading view > show text threads: Allows you to view where the text is flowing. Clicking in the outport allows you to thread text frames. Keyboard modifiers of Option/Alt allow semiautomatic flow, and shift allows for autoflow.
PDF/X-1a: Best for sending to a commercial printer that you don’t know (preferred file format). Embed all fonts and graphics and do not set images in RGB color mode.
PDF/X-3: Allows color profile embedding. Acrobat 6.0 layers-outputs it in individual layers to be turned off and on in the PDF file.
Separations preview: Allows you to see what colors are in your document as you roll over objects.
Flattener preview: Shows the effects of transparency in a document prior to printing it.
Transparency blend space: Make sure it’s CMYK.
