Event Details

The first edition of our Reno InDesign User Group Summer Series was well attended, with several most-welcome new faces.

In our earlier segment we focused on speed- and efficiency building practices for formatting documents, including:
• How to set permanent (default) values for font, paragraph styles, basic character format, and basic frames
• How and why to add bleed values to documents
• How to change color of ruler guides, creation of ruler guides
• How to use Paste In Place
• Automation – How to place several pictures into a document with the click of a button
• Adding and subtracting shapes and images from each other
• Creating and using the fraction styles to re-format numerator/denominator combos using OpenType faces
• Using the Eyedropper tool for consistency in applying both character and object attributes

We devoted our second segment to new approaches to InDesign layout to facilitate
Interactive PDFs:
• Buttons with behaviors
• Placing a movie into a PDF with controls and behaviors

Overall, we laid the groundwork for a publication strategy that might call for a conventional InDesign layout for print, coupled with an alternative version that might contain additional info and many interactive features.

Congratulations to our raffle winners, particularly our grand prize (InDesign CS3) winner, Aspen.

Thank You

Continued thanks to the University of Nevada, Reno for their hospitality. Thanks also to Apsiva (www.apsiva.com) and Peachpit Press (www.peachpit.com) and O’Reilly (www.oreilly.com) for their kind donations.
