Meeting details
Introducing, the first meeting of the InDesign User Group 2008 Summer Series! Your Reno InDesign User Group meets June 11, on the UNR campus.
What is different? We will be doing lunchtime sessions (11:30am to 1:30pm). Bring your lunch and feast your eyes on the multi-faceted strengths of Adobe workflow!
By popular demand (based on you the last meeting evaluation forms), our main topics will be automation and the creation of interactive PDFs. Because these robust capabilities of InDesign are most powerful with compatibly-constructed documents, we can introduce them along with some demonstrations and tips that will be meaningful for members at all experience levels.
AGENDA
We will present our main topics in three stages:
STAGE 1: Novices and experienced users will benefit from this useful review. Explore setting defaults, review object/graphic/type attributes, and set up several kinds of documents.
STAGE 2: Something new for everyone … Share field-tested tips for creating, enhancing and sharing Object/Text/Table styles, and a thorough introduction to InDesign effects. Partake in a discussion of Typography and Open Type.
STAGE 3: The main event… See how InDesign automation features can improve productivity in unique and enterprising ways. By incorporating interactive features in PDFs, we encourage our audience to opt for “green” communication, and read our information on screen. You will get enough “background” to begin today.
SO… Why hang around after hours when you can take a long lunch in mid-day to improve your InDesign knowledge benefit from the most economical training experience that you will find? (With the added bonus of getting out of work!)
YOUR FRIENDLY FACILITATOR Jim Cooper, Chair of the Reno InDesign User Group VP of Print Implementations - Apsiva Catalog Solutions
FOOD Bring your lunch and (if you like) something to share with a new friend.
REGISTRATION IS VERY IMPORTANT Please register on the website www.indesignusergroup.com/chapters/reno beforehand for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the ability to help us procure some great raffle prizes.
RAFFLE Great gifts donated by many of our generous sponsors will be raffled off. For this meeting, we ask that you bring a CHECK to purchase raffle tickets. More details to come on meeting day.
PARKING CHANGES If you go to www.unr.edu/parking/maps.html you can click the link to download a PDF of the parking map. Our meeting site (Frandsen Humanities Building) is number 042. If you picked up a parking pass during the last meeting, you can use it in the YELLOW lot across Virginia Street. You should print YELLOW LOT on the pass along with the date.
If you did not pick up a pass at the last meeting, you will need to stop in, pick up the pass, and jog back to your car. At the meeting, you can get a pass for the next meeting (with the purchase of raffle tickets) and take it with you. Of course, you should have better luck with street parking during the summer.
THANKS … … in advance to Adobe for their continued support and to the kind folks at UNR for their hospitality. Also, we are grateful to Peachpit Press (www.peachpit.com), O’Reilly (www.oreilly.com), and Apsiva (www.apsiva.com) for their generosity.
