Event Details

Our April 6 Lunchtime meeting was packed with useful information. Melissa Rhodes, Director of Business Development for Photolibrary (www.photolibrary.com), gave us an overview of their services. She encouraged us to visit their website to explore their vast collection of Royalty Free (3 million) and Rights Managed (3 million more) images.

If you need stock movie footage or music, consider Photolibrary as well.
Footage Requests: usfootage@photolibrary.com
Image and Music Requests: ussales@photolibrary.com

To conclude her presentation (which included some awesome samples) Melissa made us all an incredibly generous offer. All of our IDUG members will receive a 25% discount on all online orders of Royalty Free images at www.photolibrary.com. Details are in the Member Benefits area on this site.

Melissa invites us to contact her with questions or for more information: melissa.rhodes@photolibrary.us.com

Afterward, Jim Cooper introduced us to some simple but powerful InCopy functionality. He emphasized the need to build hard-working stylesheets to make our editor's new formatting responsibilities as easy as possible. We also got a chance to see how easily we can create Contents and Cross-Reference entries in InDesign documents, and re-visited the synergy between our layouts and interactive PDFs.

For the benefit of our newest members, Jim once again demonstrated how the cool interactive capabilities of InDesign have actually given rise to a whole new family of publications. He loaded up a Data Merge template with interactive features and virtually "sprayed" scores of pop-out buttons in seconds. Jim suggested that low-overhead publishing of photo archives will allow us to infuse our ordinary PDFs with marketable bonus features.

Finally, we reviewed an easy way to "mirror" a graphic, and put our personal signature on InDesign object and table Strokes. Our attendees (according to Jim) now have a decided edge in formatting and customizing an extensive tabular layout.

Thanks to Melissa and Photolibrary, a few lucky folks walked away with T-shirts. All proceeds from our regular raffle continue to go to the Bring Bri Justice Foundation.
