El pasado 15 de marzo el InDesign User Group se dió cita en el Centro de Convenciones de Puerto Rico, como parte de las actividades de Gráfica del Caribe 2008. Más de 115 personas abarrotaron la sala de conferencias y disfrutaron de una amena presentación por parte de Noha Edell, Gerente de Desarrollo de Negocios, Adobe Systems Inc., área este de los Estados Unidos. Noha presentó el tema, How to look Good in Print, en el cual demostró cómo preparar los documentos de InDesign de tal modo que podamos obtener resultados predecibles al enviarlos a imprenta.

En su presentación, Noha dió instrucciones específicas sobre cómo arreglar aquellos issues que pudieran surgir durante la creación de un documento de InDesign y que pueden causar problemas a la hora de impresión. Demostró las mejores prácticas para el uso de transparencia en los documentos de InDesign, al igual que las consideraciones que debemos tomar al generar los PDFs. Concluyó su presentación explicando cómo utilizar las herramientas de InDesign durante el proceso de "preflight" y así asegurar el resultado deseado.

En la segunda parte de nuestra reunión, David Blatner, autor de un sin número de libros de tecnología, incluyendo; Real World InDesign y Real World Photoshop, conversó con nosotros sobre varios rasgos de InDesign CS3 y muchos trucos secretos del programa. Esta fue una conferencia por web, y debo decir que fue todo un éxito. Además de los temas que consideró hubo una intereacción excelente entre el auditorio y David, ya que pudo contestar muchas preguntas sobre InDesign. Finalmente, David nos proveyó con algunos artículos que rifamos entre los miembros. Entre ellos, el libro Real World InDesign CS3, el afiche de InDesign Secrets y el Pattern Maker Plug-in de Tea Cup Software con un valor de $99.00 dólares.

The Puerto Rico InDesign User Group hit an all-time high, with over 115 enthusiastic members rocking up to the meeting! We were thrilled to have Noha Edell from Adobe Systems as our guest presenter; she instantly became the crowd favourite.

After a brief welcome by Chapter Representative José M. Ramos, Noha took the stage and proceeded to educate us on fixing our print problems. She demonstrated the best practices for constructing InDesign files with transparency and gave us the lowdown on what flattening really does and better yet, what we can do to control it.

But isn’t prevention better than cure? Of course it is.

Noha concluded by showing us how to use InDesign’s forensic tools to prevent these problems and to generate the Perfect Bullet-Proof PDF.

In the second part of our meeting, David Blatner, author of over a dozen books on subjects from InDesign to color management, rocked the house with an InDesign CS3 Tips and Tricks Power Session. He broadcast his video conference over the web using Acrobat Connect, and I must say it was a very good experience. At the end, he gave away items to raffle off. Among these were the book "Real World InDesign CS3," the InDesign Secrets Shortcuts poster, and the Pattern Maker Plug-in from Teacup Software (a $99.00 dollar value).
