July 12, 2007
This InDesign User Group meeting began with a four-hour training seminar that laid out the latest and greatest facets of Adobe Creative Suite 3. Of course, the issue of project workflow management was key to the seminar, and host Paul Erdman, along with special guest speaker Gabriel Powell, were up to the challenge. Gabriel’s book, “Instant InDesign,” will be released in the fall of 2007.
The seminar was partitioned into five topics related to CS3: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, and Bridge. The general concept that Paul and Gabriel attempted to bring to the forefront was the enhanced usability and convenience of this new software suite. Some specific points included customized menu displays, stylized workspaces, selective-consecutive imported files, vector smart objects, grouping multiple files into a single PDF, and larger preview panelsto name a few.
During the standard IDUG meeting that followed, Paul Erdman revisited troubleshooting issues with InDesign. The theme for the meeting was the “unexplainable” InDesign issues that many users face during operations: master document styling, data merging, and efficient importation of files with text. The remaining time was devoted to an open Q & A session between Paul and Gabriel and audience members.
