Meeting Summary: InDesign and the Digital Publishing era

Digital publishing for EReading and Tablet devices was the central topic of our recent Perth IDUG meeting

During this meeting our chapter rep and resident InDesign Guru Cari Jansen (www.carijansen.com), opened our eyes to the future of publishing.

We looked at the EBook publishing and the challenges and possibilities of publishing EPUB files from InDesign CS5 and took a sneak peak at Adobe's digital magazine publishing solution, which uses InDesign as its layout tool and published to the iPad.

There was lots of food for thought. What opportunities are there for your organisation? How does the role of the graphic designer change with the changes in technology? What new tools and skills will we need to take on board? And how do multitude of EReader and tablet devices impact on our workflows?

The evening concluded in true pre-holiday season spirit with the give-away of many cool gadgets kindly donated by Adobe Australia and the give-away of the Adobe Creative Suite CS5 Design Premium software bundle, won by Adam Trickett, thanks to Adobe's generous support as well. Thank you once again to you the members, who make our quarterly meetings such a successful event. Your continued support is much appreciated!

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at the beginning of February, we're still finalising dates with the university at this stage. But keep an eye out for the meeting invite in the new year.
