Happy First Birthday, Orlando InDesign User Group!

Over 80 members joined us at the Orlando Sentinel for an action-packed evening, which officially began with a Q&A session. Robyn Watson, a local Adobe Certified Expert from Element, conducted the session.

Graham Cohen of Digital Juice (“a leader in royalty-free professional animations, stock footage, music, layered graphics, clip art and templates”) presented an overview of their products and specifically focused on Juice Drops (layered graphics for Photoshop). A special thanks to Digital Juice for giving everyone in attendance their Halloween Juice Drop, “Halloween Haunts.” We also learned tips for creating professional, effective titles for video when using Digital Juice Jump Backs and Animations. (Visit their website at www.digitaljuice.com.)

Next, Robyn Watson presented a quick overview of the powerful TableStyles and CellStyles plug-in from Teacup Software. Robyn showed us how this plug-in can fully format a table or a cell with a simple click. After the initial formatting, any changes made to the style are updated on the table automatically. The plug-in has the ability to import styles from other documents and create default styles, making it easy to standardize the look and feel for tables across an entire organization. If tables are a staple of your InDesign diet, this plug-in is a must-have. Following Robyn’s presentation, one lucky attendee took home a copy of TableStyles and CellStyles Pro. Visit their website at www.teacupsoftware.com.

During our break, we celebrated the Orlando InDesign User Group’s first birthday, complete with birthday cake.

Our main speaker for the evening was Gabriel Powell, Senior Training Director for Metafusion Training, an Adobe Authorized Training Center in Portland, Oregon. Gabriel introduced us to the world of Version Cue, an innovative file manager that is part of the Standard and Premium editions of Adobe Creative Suite 2. It allows you to track files, manage changes, and preserve various iterations of a file all from within the familiar Adobe environment. Say goodbye to complex file-naming conventions, endless searches for a particular file or version of a file, and having your work overwritten by someone else in your workgroup. Additionally, it lets you initiate and manage Adobe PDF-based reviews easily. He packed side lessons into his presentation as well (such as working Adobe Bridge and using snippets).
