The Adobe InDesign User Group of Orlando met at the Downtown Media Arts Center on May 23, 2006, starting promptly at 7:00 p.m. Mark Poulalion of Sport Diver magazine started the program by demonstrating many of InDesign CS2's scripts (which are on the Resource and Extras disk packaged with the program). Nifty timesavers such as "Image Catalog" (places a group of photos on an InDesign page automatically) and "Corner Effect" (allows 2 types of corners on one frame), were just 2 from a long list of helpful scripts available.

The group's enthusiastic and dedicated chapter representative, designer Edward Feldman--fresh from attending the InDesign conference in Chicago--pointed the audience to check out the abundance of resources on the Indesign User Group's website (http://www.indesignusergroup.com/chapters/orlando/). Not only will you find meeting notes and registration, you will also find links to upcoming events relating to InDesign. You will also find "The Learning Center," a must-visit area for every InDesign user. You'll see sample videos, sample publications, converting from Quark to InDesign, podcasts, videos, books, magazines, and even crossword puzzles to help you learn the tricks of the trade. Online discussions, service & support, and many other resources are tucked inside the Adobe InDesign User Group's website.

Chris Converse (a versatile, award-winning designer whose expertise is a perfect balance between traditional and interactive mediums) presented two information-packed sessions through Adobe's Breeze technology (Chris delivered the presentations from his home in the suburbs of Philadelphia). The first was a demonstration of the interactive capabilities of InDesign, including the hyperlink palette, states palette, button tool, bookmarks palette, and how to generate a TOC and create bookmarks in the resulting PDF file. Chris demonstrated how to create an interactive PDF document inside of InDesign, including how to place a Quicktime movie within InDesign.

He then demonstrated how to take content from InDesign and move it to Adobe GoLive using the Package for Golive feature in InDesign. He showed how to can maintain a live link between the applications, allowing you to update content in InDesign, and have GoLive update both content and graphics for your web page. The second presentation focused on the individual strengths of both Dreamweaver and Golive, and how to use the applications together.
