Meeting Notes Archive
August 1, 2007On Tuesday, August 1 over 110 members of the New York InDesign Users Group gathered at the Fashion Institute of Technology for the group’s fourth meeting of ’07.
After opening remarks by Chapter Rep Scott Citron, noted author and trainer Sandee Cohen took the podium. Sandee spent 45 minutes showcasing many of the improved Find/Change features of InDesign CS3. Notable was how InDesign can now change items using content copied to your computer’s clipboard or built-in memory. Sandee also did a great demo that explained the basics of using GREP (General Regular Expressions Parser), another new CS3 feature. Sandee has generously shared with us some of her custom GREP queries (including instructions on where to install them), which will be posted on the NY IDUG website for download.

Following Sandee was Bob Levine, pride of New Jersey. Bob’s presentation was geared towards how to use InDesign, InCopy, and Acrobat in a paperless workflow. Bob showed how designers can send stories for copyediting to InCopy users working locally or even remotely using InDesign CS3’s new Package for InCopy feature.
Bob also showed how to use Acrobat 8.0 Professional to mark up PDF documents and send comments for email review. Once the comments are returned, InCopy users can copy and paste those revisions into their documents before returning the document to designers for final preparation.
Here are a few choice comments from the evaluations we received:
“Great service to the community.”
“This was my first GREP class. Easy to understand; makes me want to dive in. Glad I came!”
“Bob Levine --> very helpful.”
“Bob’s knowledge of workflow was exceptional; good presentation.”
