New York City InDesign User GroupMeeting Notes Archive
Thursday, February 2, 2006
Thursday, February 2, 2006 marked the largest meeting ever of the NYC InDesign® user group. With 190 attending, this meeting was also the largest IDUG event ever held among all chapters. Right off the bat, a hearty thanks to all who made it to this landmark event.
The evening began with a presentation of BarcodeMaker by Lawrence Horwitz of Teacup Software. BarcodeMaker, an add-on to Teacup's excellent PatternMaker plug-in for InDesign, quickly generates up to 19 unique industry-standard barcodes, including several flavors of ISBN, EAN, and UPC codes. For more information on this excellent product, please visit Teacup Software BarcodeMaker page.
Following Lawrence's presentation, NYCIDUG chapter rep Scott Citron delivered part two of his presentation titled "Adobe Creative Suite: From Concept to Completion." part 2 of this presentation was given at the last NYCIDUG meeting in November. The idea here was to show designers how to work with all the CS print products to produce interesting and powerful printed pieces.
To help explain how InDesign communicates with InCopy® in a collaborative workflow, Scott engaged InDesign expert Bob Levine, who demonstrated the process of copyfitting and editing text in a Windows environment.
Much of the presentation was also given over to showing how to use ID to produce a final rich-media, interactive PDF complete with rollover bookmarks and embedded QuickTime movies.
The evening concluded with our customary raffle, where the prizes ranged from books, T-shirts and plug-ins to a copy each of InDesign and InCopy CS2. Our thanks to the sponsors for providing the raffle prizes. They include:
Markzware (Q2ID)
Teacup Software (BarcodeMaker and PatternMaker)
David Blatner and Peachpit Press (Real World Adobe InDesign CS2)
O'Reilly Media
Lynda.com
Adobe Systems (InDesign CS2, InCopy CS2)
Please show your support of these sponsors, without whom our raffle wouldn't be a raffle!
