Adobe InDesign® CS2!
For two hours Adobe's Noha Edell and I stumbled (and sometimes fumbled!) through the first public demo of the just-announced InDesign CS 2. Among the many features we showcased at FIT's beautiful Katie Murphy Auditorium were:

  • Photoshop® layer support
  • Objects styles
  • Drag-and-drop text editing
  • Anchored frames
  • Snippets
  • Adobe Bridge and Adobe Stock Photo integration
  • Word import options
  • Advanced style features
  • Quick-apply styling
  • Improved color picker

Apparently we did something right, as these comments below indicate:

“Tonight’s meeting was excellent. Noha and Scott tag-teamed nicely to show the new features. The presentation was organized and energetic. Commentaries and humor by Noha and Scott keep things interesting.”

“Really great new features. Can’t wait to start using the new version.”

“Fantastic, funny, informative as always. Look forward to using the latest and greatest.”

For a great taste of the new features of all the Creative Suite 2 products check out the CS2 QuickTime videos on the new Layers magazine site (formerly MacDesign magazine):

As usual, the evening concluded with our customary raffle; it too was a record-setter, pulling in $735 for the group. Once again, all raffle proceeds go into a fund to help defray the considerable cost of these meetings.

On the subject of new business, I have a number of important announcements.

Mark your calendar on Monday, July 18. This will be the “next” meeting of the IDUG. Due to scheduling conflicts, there will be NO meeting in June. This event will once again be held back at the McGraw-Hill/Macmillan Auditorium on 49th and Avenue of the Americas. I know I say this all the time, but this is another event you won't want to miss. The theme of this meeting will be “Masters of Type,” and will feature Thomas Phinney, Program Manager, Fonts & Core Technologies, Adobe Systems. Sharing the bill with Thomas will be the brilliant and entertaining design duo of Roberto de Vicq de Cumptich and Matteo Bologna (say that 10 times!). By day, Roberto is the VP and Senior Art Director at HarperCollins Publishers, while Matteo is the principal of Mucca Design. In their “spare” time, the two collaborate on other projects, such as the acclaimed book Words at Play. For a look at their distinctive and inspired work, check out the September/October issue of InDesign Magazine or visit the “Words at Play” website.
