New York City InDesign User Group
Meeting Notes Archive
Wednesday, April 28, 2004
Wednesday, April 28, 2004 marked the most recent meeting of the New York City InDesign® user group. Once again the meeting was held at Pratt Institute’s Manhattan facility on 14th Street.
As is now the custom, chapter representative Scott Citron began the meeting by welcoming the overflow crowd of 155 people. A quick show of hands revealed that nearly half of those in attendance were newcomers to the group, serving as a testament to a continued growth of interest in InDesign. Scott took a few minutes to walk the audience through the recently redesigned user group website, which can be found at http://www.indesignusergroup.com. A special thanks was also given to webmaster and designer Chris Converse for his excellent work on the site.
Following Scott’s intro, featured guest Claudia McCue took the podium. In addition to her duties as chapter representative of the Atlanta InDesign user group, Claudia spends most of her time as a print and prepress trainer and specialist with multiple certifications in a number of Adobe applications.
Titled “Why Transparency Need Not Be Scary,” Claudia’s presentation went a long way towards explaining what to do and what not to do when working with transparency within InDesign.
Following a short break, Jennifer Pade of Flux Consulting offered up a handful of valuable InDesign tips and techniques.
The night wrapped up with our usual raffle, during which we gave away an armload of great gifts, including DVDs from Total Training, books from Adobe Press, a certificate for free printing from Compucolor, and, of course, a copy of the Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe InDesign CS. Thanks again to all our sponsors for their continued generosity.
With any luck, our next meeting will be in mid-June. We’re currently trying to firm up the exact date and the guest speakers, so stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, thanks again to everyone who’s supporting our group. At present we number more than 900, the largest such InDesign user group in the world! Until next time…
Best regards,
Scott Citron, New York City Chapter Representative
