Monday, July 14 marked the most recent meeting of the New York City InDesign® user group.
Held at the New School’s fantastic Swayduck Auditorium, the evening meeting with a discussion of OS X font handling, conducted by Ron Hall of Creative Solutions Group, part of the Apple Consultants Network.
Ron did his best to unravel the mysteries of the system’s multiple fonts folders (six) and where to put what. Ron also offered his advice on which current OS X font manager is recommended by his firm (Insider’s FontAgent Pro). Adding to the discussion was Dave Saunders, who joined Ron on-stage to talk about other font issues specific to InDesign. Dave mentioned that he uses a simple AppleScript to manage his fonts in OS X, and provided us with a link to download the script below.
After a break, Gary Cosimini of Adobe’s New York office treated the group to an hour-long demonstration of the many virtues of the new Acrobat® 6.0 Pro. Among such virtues of Acrobat Pro are layers, preflighting, improved search and help features, and support for the PDF/X standard.

The evening ended with another great raffle. Among the prizes given away were copies of InDesign and Photoshop®, an excellent selection of Adobe Press books, and two copies of FontAgent Pro.
