Seeing new features in real world situations really helps.
Attendee
130 members of the NY InDesign Users Group packed Katie Murphy Amphitheater at FIT on October 22 for a first glimpse of InDesign CS4.
Chapter rep Scott Citron, back for the first time since his car accident in late July, got things rolling by handing the mic over to Bob Levine. Bob's presentation focused mostly on the new interface changes of ID CS4. Among the features Bob showed were the new application frame, power zoom tool, spread rotation, smart guides, links panel, and tabbed n-up views. Next up was ID author and expert Sandee Cohen. Sandee showcased InDesign's powerful new Live Preflight feature. Afterward, Sandee demoed one of ID's most gee-whiz new features, Export to SWF, which preserves page curl transitions from page to page.
Last but not least was Noble Desktop's Dan Rodney. Dan wowed the crowd with his presentation of new GREP Styles, nested line styles, and conditional text features. Dan also snuck in a little-known trick to change panel labels from all cap to upper and lower case.
The evening concluded with a raffle of books and software. Thanks once again to our generous sponsors including onOne software, O'Reilly Media, Markzware, StockLayouts, Peachpit Press, and Adobe Systems Inc. Thanks also to our presenters, Bob Levine, Sandee Cohen, and Dan Rodney.
