New York City InDesign User GroupMeeting Summary
The Best of InDesign: Tips & Techniques Tue, Aug 26th, 2008 at 6:00 PM Fashion Institute of Technology
Event Details On Tuesday, August 28, 87 members of the New York InDesign User Group assembled at FIT to show their support to their longtime chapter leader, Scott Citron, who was injured in a serious car accident in LA, and to hear four InDesign experts offer up their best ID tips and tricks.
We kicked off the meeting with a recorded message from Scott, who gave a quick update on his recovery progress and thanked everyone for their support and words of encouragement. You can download the recording of Scott’s message at the botton of this page.
Following Scott’s message, recognized InDesign experts Jeff Wichtel, Michael Murphy, Chris Converse, and Bob Levine wowed the audience with scores of valuable tips and tricks guaranteed to make the work of any InDesign user easier. Michael Murphy, whose tricks centered on getting the most with the Option/Alt key, has kindly put together a PDF, which you can download at the bottom of this page.
The meeting ended with the largest raffle the group has ever seen and with an auction which started as a silent one, which then turned LIVE thanks to our volunteer auctioneers Lucy Albanese, Matteo Bologna, and Ashwini Jambotkar.
Both the raffle and the auction were great successes. Nearly $4,500 was raised to help Scott and his family deal with the mountain of medical bills and lost income that's expected over the coming weeks.
In response to the many requests I've received from members who were unable to attend the meeting but wanted to send monetary gifts, we have set up three alternatives: Online Auction, Café Press gear, and a Paypal account.
• Erica Gamet, Denver IDUG chapter representative, has volunteered to run the online auction. She put together an impressive site at http://auction.idugdenver.net/, where a variety of items including software, services, books, and subscriptions are up for bids. The online auction will close on September 15 at 5:00p.m. EST.
• Sandee Cohen has immortalized Scott’s first words after the accident by creating some cool gear, which you can order at the Café Press (http://www.cafepress.com/get_well_scott). To read the story behind this gear, visit http://tinyurl.com/644yhu.
• Bob Levine, Michael Murphy, and Terry Perito (Scott’s brother-in-law) have set up a Paypal account. Terry will forward all gifts directly to Scott.
To send your gift via Paypal, please visit http://getwellscottcitron.blogspot.com and click the “Donate” button found on the bottom right side of the page. Thank YouThank-yous go out to everyone who participated in this special meeting:
