The first meeting of 2007 for the Twin Cities InDesign User Group was a big hit! Well over 100 people packed the large auditorium at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design to learn more about Adobe InDesign. The evening began with a presentation by Timmreck, a local color expert and production artist. Timmreck helped demystify many of the color management features and settings found in InDesign CS2 as well as the rest of the Creative Suite. He discussed and demonstrated the importance and proper use of color profiles in both RGB and CMYK workflows in a very down-to-earth, understandable way.

The second presentation of the evening was by trainer and consultant Keith Gilbert (gilbertconsulting.com), who demonstrated and explained how to use “6 small things that equal big results” in InDesign. The premise was that while the big flashy features of InDesign get all the attention, for long work sessions it’s the “little things” that make InDesign a pleasure to use. Keith proceeded to show how, why, and when to single-click on field labels, to power-nudge and to Option/Alt-click. He discussed measurement systems, how to let InDesign do math, and some really handy palette-related keyboard shortcuts.
