Over 60 people attended this meeting in the wonderful Minneapolis College of Art & Design (MCAD) auditorium. The main presentation for the evening was given by Keith Gilbert, a Twin Cities-based consultant and trainer. Keith's topic was "Designing and Producing Tables in InDesign®."
Keith recently authored an article for Issue #9 of InDesign Magazine, titled "Turn the Tables." (Individual back issues of the magazine can be ordered at www.indesignmag.com/idm/purchase.html.) In his presentation, he demonstrated and expanded on the concepts in the magazine article.
Attendees learned:
- How to quickly locate and access the dozens and dozens of table-formatting options in InDesign
- How to add customized, logical keyboard shortcuts to some of the critical table-formatting commands
- How to locate and use some extremely valuable scripts to make challenging table tasks easier
- Two methods of aligning columns of numbers in table cells
- How to use a scripting solution from www.pdsassoc.com to import new data into an existing formatted table
- How to use Microsoft Excel to "massage" table data to make mass formatting changes easy
... and much more.
The evening concluded with some good Q&A from members and our usual "Rafflemania" for many high-quality door prizes.
