Efficiency and automation in InDesign
Come to the August meeting of the Twin Cities InDesign User Group, and learn to work smarter and more efficiently in InDesign!
Presentation one: The future of art direction
Ken Friberg and Daniel Life will begin with a presentation on how to use Adobe ConnectNow, a hot new technique for remote art direction, live collaboration and client approval sessions. Ken and Daniel will demo how Adobe ConnectNow works, and discuss best practices, shortcomings, advantages and where this all might lead in the near future. ConnectNow is a free service from Adobe that works with all versions of the Creative Suite.
Rat Race Studios (http://ratracestudios.com) is a St. Paul based commercial photography studio, in business since 1986. It's principle partners Daniel Life and Ken Friberg collectively have experience in marketing, software development, graphic design/art direction, and graphic design education.
Presentation two: Automated publishing with InDesign
Keith Gilbert will continue the theme of working efficiently by demonstrating and discussing various methods of automating difficult production tasks in InDesign, namely catalogs, directories and reference guides.
Using several real-world examples of projects that Keith has worked on recently, he will dive into importing XML data for catalog production, how to use InData for directories, and how to automate pricing updates with InDesign plugins. If time allows, he will show to get started with InDesign scripting.
Keith Gilbert (http://gilbertconsulting.com) has worked as an independent consultant and educator in the design industry for 24 years for clients such as Apple, Adobe, Best Buy, Cargill, General Mills, Lands’ End, Medtronic, Target and the United Nations. He is an Adobe Certified Instructor in InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
The evening will conclude with fantastic door prizes.
As always, Twin Cities InDesign User Group meetings are FREE and open to the public, thanks to generous support from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design (http://mcad.edu) and Central Coast Solutions (http://centralcoastweb.com/).
