Milwaukee InDesign User GroupMeeting Notes Archive
November 15, 2006
Our November meeting was held at the Business Center of WCTC. We had booked a larger meeting room because of the increased meeting registration, so a few people got lost across campus while trying to find us at our usual location in the Graphics Center. Our schedule for the evening was a double-bill of James Alexander presenting Adobe Stock Photos and James Wamser previewing Acrobat 8.
We started off with James Alexander, the Director of Adobe Stock Photos for Adobe Systems. He gave a fabulous presentation on using Adobe Stock Photos as a component within Adobe Bridge, and tied it all together in InDesign. The convenience of accessing through the InDesign layout page was a powerful timesaver for everyone who uses stock photography.
Then the meeting attendance increased when the students from the WCTC InDesign class hiked across campus to join us, along with their instructor James Wamser. Great that the students were able to attend the User Group meeting for the second half of their scheduled evening class.
James Wamser, as well as being the local InDesign instructor is also a technical trainer for Sells Printing in nearby New Berlin, Wisconsin. He offered us an exciting preview look at Acrobat 8 (which will be shipping soon), showing the online collaboration and shared review workflows, as well as the incredible automatic form fields. Then we focused on Acrobat 8 features that relate to prepress and output for printing, and compared the separations controls in InDesign CS2 and Acrobat 8.
As usual our meeting ended with a prize drawing of Adobe software, O'Reilly books, mugs from The Mac Shop in Madison, more books from Peachpit Press, and other design-related goodies. Special thanks to Adobe Systems for their generous Stock Photos discount offered to all meeting attendees, as well as cool Adobe-branded pens.
For our next IDUG Mileaukee meeting, be sure to read the announcement carefully as our room location at WCTC may change depending on the number of people who pre-register. Bring a friend, let's fill up the big theater on campus! Sign up early to be sure that we have enough seats (and enough snacks) for everyone!
