Meeting Summary: Paper Essentials for Designers
Thu, Feb 11th, 2010 at 6:00 PM
WCTC's Richard T. Anderson Center
Event DetailsA great time was had by all—everyone enjoyed cake and received a commemorative mug to celebrate InDesign's 10th birthday. Jessie Blasewitz, Fine Paper Specifications Manager from Unisource, and Stacy Mael, Account Manager Merchant Sales from Domtar brought (literally) a truckload of paper samples, and members stockpiled the latest and greatest paper samples and swatch books. The two paper experts presented an overview of paper production, selection, and color trends for 2010. Fantastic presentation! Thanks, Jessie and Stacy.
From this time forward, we will be using the college's catering service. The member survey indicated that a light supper is preferred before meetings. With the additional cost for catering, we would ask that all members keep their registration status updated for each meeting, so that we don't pay for members who register, but do not attend.
Thank you
Thanks, everyone. Thanks for your generous donations and enthusiasm. You make this a great club. Our Wisconsin winters get to be a bit long, and getting together brightens up the day.
Comments from attendees
- Great program! Usually I tend to lean on the recommendation of the printer. Now, at least, I know just enough to be dangerous and can ask halfway intelligent questions about paper. If I'm going to be an effective freelancer, I'll need to know more about paper.
- Wow!! This would have made a GREAT all day special seminar. I learned so much that I had never knew—and always needed to know!
- Finally I got a paper seminar! I'm sooooo happy!
- I appreciate hearing from the paper people. As a designer, you get so wrapped up in the design. It's easy to forget about the logistics. Very informative tonight.
- A very polished and well-presented program. These gals are knowledgeable!
- I learned a lot about how important it is to consider what all the choices are for paper. I will surely use the information at work. Thanks! It was exciting.
- Very educational—it's nice to have the complete presentation to take home to refer to. Loved the trends and the color forecast part.
- The information about paper types and the differences was very helpful when guiding a client in their selection of paper for their project.
- Being a fan of free stuff, I was quite excited about the mug and the paper samples. The paper samples were especially attractive and will most likely be filling up precious space in my bookshelf. I definitely didn't know that paper selection was so complicated.
