Melbourne InDesign User GroupMeeting Notes Archive
December 6, 2006
Wednesday, 6 December 2006 marked the inaugural meeting of the Melbourne chapter of the InDesign User Group. The event was held, appropriately, at RMIT University (http://www.rmit.edu.au) in Brunswick, with more than 70 enthusiastic InDesign users filling the auditorium.
We opened with a warm welcome and introduction by Chapter representative Tricia Ho and Director of the International Centre of Graphic Technology (RMIT University) Mr Robert Black.
The evening kicked off with our featured speaker, Mike McHugh, wowing the crowd with an impressive demonstration of Adobe Creative Suite 2’s fluidity and the seamless integration of Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign using Adobe Bridge. He shared several red-hot tips along the way, including the use of Layer comps.
Next, Mike dazed us with his stylish ways combining character styles, paragraph styles and object styles to achieve an impressive one-click result. He also illustrated the use of snippets and how they can enhance productivity and efficiency. Ending his presentation with a bang, Mike left a lasting impression with an Easter egg - we had Friendly Alien!
The night concluded with food, drinks, and lots of mingling.

What our members have to say about the meeting:
“The night was as entertaining as it was informative and I will be making every attempt to make the March meeting. Many of us were madly scribbling down the InDesign tidbits you were throwing at us. Your information on object styles alone was worth the drive from Narre Warren.”
“I really got a lot from the session in exploring the new levels of workflow integration on Adobe products.”
“I enjoyed the meeting very much and find Mike McHugh to be a very interesting and entertaining presenter.”
Thanks to all who came, and a special thanks to Mike McHugh, Billy Atta, Eliot Harper, Colin Ong and our friends at Aquent Melbourne.
