Meeting Summary: Automating InDesign: Working smarter, not harder.
Wed, Jun 25th, 2008 at 6:30 PM
RMIT University, Brunswick
Event DetailsMind-numbing, tedious, repetitive work is something we’re all familiar with. Thanks to Cari Jansen from Typefi and Nicholas Orr and Darrin Southern from Goya, we have been shown that life doesn’t have to be that monotonous.
Cari took us through some of the basics of bringing XML into InDesign as way of creating a more automated workflow, and provided some cool examples of how and when to use XML and how to automatically format the content as it’s being run into your InDesign templates. It was a great way to eliminate the repetitive jobs in your workflow. Cari also demonstrated the Free Typefi AutoFit plug-in, which enables the creation of relationships between InDesign objects and automatic text frame resizing depending on whether more or less content flows into a frame.
Nicholas and Darrin from Goya wrapped up the evening demonstrating their new product that was developed specifically for tracking data in FileMaker. It is capable of interacting with InDesign and InDesign Server to automate creation of PDF proofs and documents. It’s a great time saver if you need to transform a great amount of data into InDesign documents.
Tip: Be consistent with your style naming. You will thank yourself for it later.
