Event Details Congratulations to all our winners! Hansraj Mitha for winning a copy of Indesign CS3 and to both Litha Soyizwapi and Regan Ross for winning some of our spot prizes.
During the meeting we discussed the InDesign Exchange found on the Adobe website. Mention was also made to the various forums available.
The following features were demonstrated in Acrobat 9 Extended:
- Acrobat.com, which is still in beta, that allows one to share files, create new Adobe Buzzword documents, create PDF documents, and store personal files online
- How to create Portfolios
- Adding of video and 3D files to Microsoft documents, then converting them to PDF
- New scanning features
- Converting scanned text via OCR to editable text in InDesign
- New features in the Output Preview (Print Production Toolbar)
- Preflighting
- Editing of graphics and other content using Photoshop or Illustrator
A demonstration was made on how to save an InDesign document that had text converted to outlines as a flattened image. This was then opened in Acrobat and, using the OCR feature in Acrobat, the type was then converted back to editable text and copied back into InDesign. See PDF available below.
Swatches created in either Photoshop or Illustrator were "saved for exchange" from their various panels and loaded into InDesign.
Lastly, we discussed importing and linking Microsoft Excel files, together with setting up named ranges and applying of anchored objects to customise the look and feel of the table.
