Indianapolis InDesign User Group

Meeting Notes Archive

July 25, 2007

The success of the first Indianapolis InDesign Users Group meeting carried over to the second meeting with great food, familiar faces, and a wonderful presentation. Cate Indiano from DesktopMedia presented on the topic of Workflow Optimization—something that, as InDesign users, we are faced with every day. The presentation touched on topics such as creative briefs, resource gathering, and organization and production of content. Cate had many tips, tricks, and ideas for increasing workflow efficiency and decreasing bottlenecks.

The members followed along with Cate on laptops supplied by DesktopMedia as she discussed the many benefits of using Adobe Bridge as a central tool for gathering and organizing your files and assets. With Bridge you can organize and find your files quickly and accurately using Metadata, Preview & Zoom, and Keywords. With CS3, Adobe has made Bridge faster, which makes it easier to integrate with other Adobe products such as InDesign.

InDesign CS3 has also been revamped with updated features to help optimize your workflow, such as an enhanced Find/Change feature and more detailed Style Sheets. Cate discussed the importance of setting your preferences and defaults, as well as creating templates in order to save time.

Thanks to Nathan Bauer and Chrissy Mitchell for preparing the meeting notes.
