February 7, 2008

The new year got off to a great start with our first gathering for 2008. We held a special event prior to the meeting, which was the screening of the movie Helvetica. Everyone who came enjoyed the film about typography, graphic design, and global visual culture, especially the comments from renowned designers from around the world. For more information about the feature-length independent film, go to www.helveticafilm.com.

Following the show, Chita Hunter, a Software Trainer and Presenter on Adobe products, and an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InCopy, showed how designers can get the most out of the features of OpenType. She wowed us with some of the powerful typographical controls available with OpenType, such as glyphs, swashes, and ordinals.

The discussion on font issues & font management ended up being very lively. IDUG members shared some of their experiences, both good and bad.
