Thanks for a great first experience with the Adobe InDesign Group.
Schoolcraft College
Event DetailsBy definition, copyright is the exclusive ownership of and the right to make use of a literary, musical, or artistic work, protected by law for a specified period of time. Our first presenter was Matthew Bower, an attorney with Safford & Baker PLLC (www.saffordbaker.com), Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, who practices in the area of general business with a focus on copyright, trademark, Internet law, software, ecommerce, art law, publishing, entertainment law, right of publicity, and other areas of intellectual property. He discussed the copyright infringement and copyright ownership issues raised in the The Obama Poster Case: Beyond Fair Use and how this might apply to you and your work. Matt was gracious enough to send along his PowerPoint presentation (which you can download at the bottom of this page), although it might not make sense to you if you weren’t present.
For more reference materials on copyright, take a look at our 2/13/07 meeting minutes where we had previously presented this topic.
After our break IDUG member Geof Innis, independent Graphic Production Specialist and member of Group eX (a consortium of Design and Advertising professionals in Royal Oak), demonstrated some InDesign production tips. He shared an interesting method of building and easily updating a catalog, and how to use a table to create a form.
Lots of new products were raffled off along with many favorites. A long-time member won a copy of CS5 Dreamweaver. All 124 attendees who came to Schoolcraft College for the meeting went away with something, be it lip balm or a button to wear.

Typesetter, temporary
Company: Hayden-McNeil, LLC
Description:
This position supports our Design Associates and Coordinators in typesetting new material and incorporating author revisions to books/manuals in various disciplines (Chemistry, Biology and English), as well as file management.
For the period between approximately mid-March through June of 2011, we will need experienced typesetters to format text for new manuscripts, make revisions/corrections to existing typeset files, and perform any overflow of project-specific in-house technical duties (text clean-up, photo scanning/sizing, cropping and retouching).
More details and contact information will be posted by the company to our chapter forum soon.
Geoff was funny as well as helpful. It is always good to have speed tips.
Matthew’s approach to explaining all the different kids of copyright law was very approachable.
Great presentations. Matt’s examples on copyright helped with the translation of “legal speak.”.
Great InDesign tip on groupings--never thought of that.
Matt’s presentation on copyright was light and not boring which this topic could be.
Thanks for a great first experience with the Adobe InDesign Group.
Mark your calendar for February 15, 2011. Once again we are fortunate to have Terry White presenting at Schoolcraft College in Livonia. The timely topic will be Digital Publishing Your Magazine to the iPad using InDesign CS5.
