May 1, 2007

On the evening of May 1, we had 50 users joining together to socialize and learn in the great facility of Meredith’s Conference Core.

We started out our night with pizza and soda, and began the meeting with a two-minute video of the ADIM Conference where Adam Pratt (from Adobe and our presenter for the evening) was training and putting on a great show.

Adam started off his presentation by showing us some of the great new features in Adobe Bridge CS3 and how they can help us save time, such as using some of the filters to see only certain file types. We then jumped into InDesign where there are more than 100 new features and improvements and we can only show a part of them. Adam had demonstrated placing multiple photos and InDesign documents quickly with just a few short clicks. Yes, I did say placing InDesign documents—something new to InDesign CS3. You can even place InDesign 1.0 documents.

Many other exciting features were shown as well, such as the new Panels interface, Preview of the actual page in the Pages panel, many Photoshop-like effects now within InDesign’s Effects panel (previously known as the Transparency palette). We also can’t forget about new Table Styles, which will save hours of time for those who use tables. Adam also told us how we can display butterflies within InDesign now that they are not part of InDesign’s identity.
