Our first meeting was a huge success. We had 90 people registered and 54 people in attendance. All who attended were able to pick up some print materials on Adobe InDesign® CS2, a copy of Introduction to Total Training and a PeachPit 2006 catalog.
Chapter representative Brian Cupp welcomed everyone to the first Des Moines InDesign user group meeting. Brian thanked volunteers Joe Rosenberg, for registration and photography, and Christine Healy, for minutes.
Meetings will be held quarterly, and the majority of the members want the check-in/social time to start at 6:00 pm, with the meeting starting at 6:30 pm. It was decided to have light snacks, such as cheese, crackers, veggies, fruit, and nuts. Drinks would be Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, and water.
Noha Edell, of Adobe Systems, gave an overview of the InDesign user group website and the new features of InDesign CS2. Noha specifically went into great detail about Photoshop® layers support, Adobe Bridge®, paragraph styles, character styles, object styles, nested styles, anchored objects, snippets, and improved Microsoft Word importing.
The evening concluded with a huge raffle, with prizes ranging from books and DVD training to two copies of InDesign CS2. Brian Frank guessed the closest on the number of attendees and won a book of his choice. Our thanks to the sponsors for providing the raffle prizes and for their special discounts for our members. Check out the member benefits in the Member Area section of the site for great deals on books and training, and for many other great deals. Our sponsors tonight were:
Total Training: www.totaltraining.com
Adobe Press: www.adobe.com/adobebooks
Layers Magazine: www.layersmagazine.com
Adobe Systems: www.adobe.com
Based on some of the comments from the meeting, it looks like many of you would like to see more presentations about InDesign, on topics such as prepress (preparing for print and problems with InDesign files), tips and tricks, fonts and font management, interaction with other Adobe applications, special effects (drop-shadows, transparency, etc.), styles (paragraph, character, object, and nested) and converting documents to InDesign CS2.
