Event Details The Des Moines InDesign User Group had its ninth meeting. We celebrated the group's being in Des Moines for two years now, and we had 48 people in attendance. Our meeting was sponsored by Acme Printing Co., Inc. who brought in sandwiches from Jimmy Johns and drinks.
The evening was packed full of great information presented by three of our own InDesign User Group members. Dan Jeners, a trainer with New Horizons Learning Center, told us several of his favorite shortcut keys. Then he demonstrated several great techniques for working with graphics. Those included working with Adobe Bridge, placing, and sizing graphics.
Brian Cupp, our Chapter Rep, demonstrated how to create Paragraph and Character styles and how they can be used. After creating Style sheets, you can import a Word document; by holding down the Shift key when importing, you will have some advanced import options, including mapping style sheets to different names (which is what Brian demonstrated).
Carin Murphy, an instructor from the community college DMACC, took over the reins and went deeper into Paragraph and Character Styles by showing how to create Nested Styles. Many attendees were in awe over this great feature.
Brian then finalized the presentations by giving an overview of Object Styles and Frame Fitting Options. The meeting wrapped up with our great Prize drawing of Adobe InDesign CS3 and several other great books and DVDs.
