Event DetailsThe May 20th 2010 of the Des Moines InDesign User Group was a meeting not to be forgotten. Brian Cupp, our chapter Rep, presented some the great new features within InDesign CS5, Illustrator CS5, and Photoshop CS5. There were so many new features we didn’t get a chance to see them all! Of the features we did see, there were several collective gasps from members.
Among the new features Brian demonstrated were:
INDESIGN
* Interactive Documents and Presentations: Adjusting of Animation and Timing, Multi-State Objects, buttons, and Video including the FLV format.
* The ability to export for Flash or SWF.
* New Layers Panel: Objects are now shown, which allows for individual control, similar to Illustrator's Layers panel.
* Simplified Transformations: Using the content grabber and the ability to transform multiple objects without grouping them.
* Live Corner effects: Ability to adjust each corner of a frame independently.
* Browsing for linked files in the new Mini Bridge panel without needing to open the InDesign file
* Live Captions: A new text variable feature which allows the user to easily add captions to graphics using that image's metadata.
* The Tool Hints panel: A new interactive panel which displays information about the selected tool.
* The Gap Tool: This new tool manages white space instead of objects.
* Multiple page sizes in one document.
* Split and Span Columns: New features in text handling now allow paragraphs to either span multi-column text frames or split a single column into multiple columns.
* Document Installed Fonts: Fonts placed in the ‘Document Fonts’ folder next to the InDesign Document will be installed just for InDesign documents in the parent folder.
* CS Review: Create digital proofs and participate in comment review for your customers directly within InDesign.
* Many more new features
ILLUSTRATOR
* Perspective Drawing: Create accurate representation of depth and distance with ease and without using a 3D application.
* Variable-width Strokes: With the new Width Tool, strokes can be easily adjusted anywhere on the stroke.
* Drawing Enhancements: Easily draw behind or inside of an object. This even allows for graphics to be in live text!
PHOTOSHOP
* Complex Selections: Eliminate background color around the edges of your selection.
* Content-Aware Fill: Remove image with ease instead of spending hours with the Clone tool.
* Puppet Warp: Reposition, warp, or twist an image, such as making a ruler bend.
