Over 20 participants braved the almost blizzard-like conditions to attend our inaugural meeting, some coming from as far away as Fort Collins!
The meeting unofficially began with socializing and food, giving the new members an opportunity to talk about their experiences with InDesign and to get to know each other.
Lisa Forrester from Adobe kicked off the meeting welcoming everyone and discussing the overall purpose of the User Group, how similar meetings run in other cities throughout the country and introduced the Denver Chapter’s co-chairs, Erica Gamet and Brian Reyman. Erica and Brian then reviewed some important housekeeping items for the group, including the following:

Meeting schedule: The group is currently set to meet the first Tuesday of every other month, starting in June.

Volunteers: Erica and Brian solicited volunteers for help with running the registration desk, taking photos of the meetings and more.

Job-search information: We asked if there were any attendees looking for jobs or knew of any available jobs. This, along with presentations and general InDesign Q&A sessions, will be a regular part of each meeting.
We were then pleased to hear from the head of the Multimedia department at the Westminster campus of Front Range Community College. Elaine and other from the college helped arrange the excellent (and expansive) meeting room for the group. They also offered use of computer rooms as needed for future meetings.
Lisa Forrester then presented the highlight of the night, a demo of the newly released InDesign CS3. She showed off some great new features, including panels (InDesign’s new palettes), Photoshop-like effects, multiple image placing, table/cell styles, productivity enhancements, running headers and footers and more. She did a great job fielding questions from the audience and helping everyone understand CS3’s great new feature set!
The meeting concluded with a raffle for a set of great prizes, including a free copy of InDesign CS3, various books, a copy of Layers magazine and plug-ins from DTP.
