Meeting Notes Archive

November 8, 2007

37 members came out for the November meeting, centering on Interactive PDFs.

Mari Hulick, the chair of Communication Design at The Cleveland Institute of Art chaired the meeting, and led a session on creating interactive presentations and on creating forms in InDesign and Acrobat.

We had a great meeting that centered on teaching participants about the interactive features in InDesign. The training covered construction of buttons, bookmarks, and hyperlinks in an InDesign document. We covered tips such as using the Master Pages for interactive elements, creating Master Pages based on other Masters, and planning the interactive document.

We have begun a discussion on layout and design that centers on the type tools in InDesign, and why these tools are so much better than the limited tools offered through such programs as Word and PowerPoint. Particularly when it comes to interactive presentations, the design limitations in PowerPoint are supplanted by the great interactive tools in InDesign.

Member Bernard Tarver brought in files that he had been having trouble with; he was trying to anchor objects with a text wrap inside of text frames. He demonstrated his workaround at the end of the meeting.

Comments from attendees

“This was extremely helpful.”

“I had no idea InDesign was so versatile.”

“Great information on ‘good design.’ We need more information on what are good design practices. Continue this discussion!”

“Great that parking is now available for the meetings!”
