Event DetailsWe had 90 people attend our InDesign CS5 Launch Party! Balloons, sharpies, and stickers were in abundance for the celebration and the pizza went fast!
April Clark, Adobe Certified Instructor and co-chapter representative started with a preview of Photoshop's new features by showing off "Content-Aware Fill" and Mini-Bridge. She then presented the new features of Adobe InDesign CS5.
New features included:
• Viewing all pages in the Bridge preview panel
• Clicking the new "link" badge on the InDesign document thumbnail to "Show Linked Files" in Bridge
• The new document-installed fonts feature (upon packaging a document)
• Multiple Page sizes
• New Layers Panel (more like Illustrator's Layer panel)
• Create grids of equally spaced objects by using arrow keys when placing multiple graphics
• New Auto Fit feature (so content will adjust to fit resized frames)
• Content Grabber (eliminates need to use the direct selection tool)
• Gap Tool (automatically resizes images and frames based on gaps)
• Live Corner Effects (new yellow square in upper right corner of frames allows corners to be modified all at once, or one at a time with the Shift key)
• Live Captions (generated from metadata added to the picture)
• Span and Split Paragraphs (span headlines or split bulleted lists, for example, found in Paragraph Formatting)
• When Exporting PDFs, let InDesign do it in the background, so you can still work on your file
• Quick review of new Animation, Timing, and Preview panels for creating interactive documents
