   Your to-the-point, pressed-for-time Flash presentation was phenomenal!! I took notes galore and really feel comfortable to dive into Flash at some point and got some food for thought in some grey areas with my current programs. Thanks! Loved it!

Meeting Summary: InDesign Preflight & Simple Flash

Tue, May 19th, 2009 at 6:30 PM

Anthem Institute

Event Details

Our spring meeting at the Anthem Institute in North Brunswick went off with a bang. We had two different applications supported, a Q&A, a little pizza, some give-aways and a whole lot of knowledge presented.

After pizza, we started off the night, (as will be our new custom), to answer some questions from the members. So, the next time you run into a snag, write it down and we'll address it next meeting.

Next, Mat Gilbert, your co-chapter rep, demonstrated the greatly enhanced feature of Preflight within InDesign CS4. How now (brown cow) you can create profiles that can be shared with your workgroup to target the production problems that most vex you and your prepress department.

Alison Cattelona, your other co-chapter rep, gave a quick course on Flash. Skipping over hours of material to deliver the bare bones and most important beginnings of Flash, our audience proved to be quick to absorb.

Trouble with Word?
===================
If you have noticed the Word style mapping preset bug in the CS4 version of InDesign, and you want to see it fixed, please report it to Adobe. The more people who report it, the higher on the list of things to get fixed it will go. The problem occurs when mapping Word styles when importing a Word file. While you can still map the styles, you can no longer save them as a preset as before. So, if you have multiple files using the same Word styles, you will have to map them again and again each time you import a file. To report this bug (#2255226), go to

Thank you

Thank you to Claude Pain at Anthem Institute who continues to provide our venue. O'Reilly Books and Pearson Publishing who continues to stock our raffle shelves. And of course to Adobe who provide our software giveaway.

Next Meeting

July 21, 2009 at the Anthem Institute in North Brunswick.

If you're curious about using the Book feature of InDesign, you won't want to miss the next meeting of the Central NJ InDesign User Group.

Adobe's Noha Edell will present the ins and outs of long document construction. Along the way, she will demystify synchronizing styles, swatches and more across multiple documents via the Book panel, generating dynamic tables of contents, indexing, and cross-references.

But that's not all: in the process of constructing documents, she'll hit on many other important CS4 features along the way. To get an idea of the features she'll cover, download Noha's outline at http://indesignusergroup.com/events/event_attachments/LongDocumentsDemofeatures.pdf.
