Meeting Summary: NJ InDesign User Group: PDF and DataMerge
Tue, Mar 25th, 2008 at 6:30 PM
Chubb Institute
Event DetailsOur second meeting was quite a success. Great presenters, raffle giveaways, and pizza!
First on deck was Mary Belthoff from Double Click First llc, presenting Interactive PDFs from InDesign. This informative presentation covered bookmarks, buttons, hyperlinks, and placed movies. All this candy was fully functional in exported PDFs. Mary was kind enough to develop a PDF on her presentation, which you can download using the link near the bottom of this page.
Mat Gilbert followed with a demonstration of the powerful features of data merge. Taken from the pages of Microsoft but advanced much further, this capability offers automatic page construction using images and text taken from a .csv file. A little set-up time goes a long way in automation.
Thank you
Thank you to Mary & Mat for covering these informative and lesser-known features. Group: Let me know if you get a chance to use any of these features – and how.
Also thanks to our raffle sponsors:
• Adobe for the InDesign software, magnets, t-shirts, and DVDs
• O'Reilly, Pearson, and Peachpit for the books
• Doubleclick First and Mobile Mac Training for the training giveaways.
• Chubb Institute for the venue!

InDesign workshop May 21st in Rutherford
Join Adobe Systems® Business Development Manager Noha Edell for a three-hour workshop hosted by Essex Computers.
This workshop will show you surprising and powerful depths to three of the most fundamental areas of InDesign CS3:
• Typography & OpenType
• Authoring Interactive PDFs
• Transparency – it doesn't have to be scary!
You'll get best-practice information concerning typography, transparency, flattening, preparing for a print service provider, and exporting to PDF. Noha will also cover the use of InDesign's forensic tools and Acrobat 8.0 for finding, fixing, and preventing problems.
At the end of the workshop, one lucky attendee will leave with InDesign, courtesy of Adobe Systems.
This workshop is FREE and sponsored by Essex Computers. For more information

Next Meeting
Date has changed to May 27th. 6:30 as usual. Same place, Chubb Institute, Rt. 1 North Brunswick.
Scott Citron, the New York IDUG Chapter Rep, will be presenting a section from his book "Professional Design Techniques with Adobe Creative Suite 3."
