Event DetailsFirst of all, THANK YOU all for joining us in welcoming InDesign CS 5 to the community. It was a great turnout. A lot of new faces and of course many of our old stalwarts. Creative Suite 5...woohoo! Alison Cattelona took the helm on navigating the waters of InDesign CS5. The journey blew us away. Can you say multimedia? It seems as though InDesign really answered the call to create an easy-to-use multi-medium design tool. Here are a few of the highlights...
First let's talk animation. InDesign is not new to the whole embedded movie (swf, mov) thang, but the fact that we can now build animation within the InDesign interface is astounding. Alison showed us how to create paths for images to follow, sliding panels, really ramped up interactivity with video.
Alison explored the new “Illustratoresque” layers. The concept that each item is isolated on its own sublayer has given the user outstanding control over object placement and manipulation.
We played with the GAP TOOL. This allowed Alison to change the position of a gap in between multiple objects while still proportionality resizing the surrounding images.
How about a feature that lets you span a title within a text box over two or more columns automatically, or the fact you can have multiple size pages within the same layout? (Think jacket cover, hmmm)... yep, she showed us that too.
Apart from the outstanding presentation, we were able to raffle off some pretty choice items, including CS5 Design Premium!
Thanks again for making this a meeting for the books. Our numbers are growing...NYC watch out!
