Event DetailsSo it’s been 10 years since the birth of Adobe InDesign. Wow! There was another anniversary as well. The InDesign User Group of Central New Jersey is celebrating its second year! We had an amazing turnout. Along with the usual delicious pizza, Alison also picked up a scrumptious cake to commemorate the event. And of course, along with celebrating the event, there were also topics we covered.
Sticking with the ever-successful format of integrating InDesign and other CS applications, Alison and Mat, the IDUG of NJ Chapter Reps, put together a two-part presentation. In the first part, Mat started off with showing a new feature found in CS4, the addition of predefined “pixel”-based layouts (600x800, for example). He then exported InDesign files into Dreamweaver using the Export For Dreamweaver command found on the File menu. He demonstrated how InDesign creates an xHTML page with optional CSS tags. One has the option of optimizing images when exporting the layout or linking to an existing folder with other images. Through the Advanced tab, one can choose to either create undefined CSS rules with ID tags, or link to an existing CSS document with rules already defined. Mat promised to show us, in Part 2, how it can all come together in a well-formatted web page, free of errors.
At the break, along with some lovely books donated from our friends at O’Reilly, Peachpit, and Adobe Press, we raffled off Dreamweaver CS4.
Rich Huhn also donated a great selection of books from his library to all those interested…they went like hotcakes. Thanks again, Rich.
After the break, Alison then presented part 1 of 2 on exporting InDesign content for Flash. She first used a new InDesign CS4 feature called Page Transitions (“page curl”), listed within the Pages panel options tab. This effect will show the animation of a page turning, only after being exported into Flash either as a SWF or Flash file. She then exported the layout as a SWF…oooooahhhhhh! After the cheers and tears of such glory came exporting the document as a Flash editable file, XFL. As an XFL she showed us how to add simple ActionScript and animation to the page by use of a button. From here she explained how this could be added to a web page, promising to reveal this and more in Part 2.
Once again, we would like to thank all those returning members who made this meeting one for the books. As for you new members…WELCOME…and please take part and attend future meetings! They are nothing without you!
Thank you
Pearson InVue, O'Reilly and Peachpit for the wonderful books they continue to provide.
