Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting of the Boston chapter of IDUG on February 22, 2010. We had a special guest speaker, a great presentation topic, and a game show that was fun!

The meeting consisted of three major agenda items:

• Chapter News Review
• Author Presentation on using InDesign and Flash together
• Game Show and Chapter Raffle

CHAPTER NEWS REVIEW

Co-chairperson Andrew Fintzel offered a quick summary of notable chapter developments and announcements, including:

• IDUG Boston has added a new Promotions Task Group, and we are recruiting volunteers. The task group develops and designs the chapter's communication channels and marketing collateral.

We need volunteers, especially:
• Website designers
• Copywriters
• Social media "enthusiasts" (people who would be willing to expand and manage our presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
• Please contact us if you are interested in participating. Contact via email: Andy (thefintz@yahoo.com) or Charles(linskeyc@comcast.net).
• There will be a networking event coming soon... Look to the website and/or Facebook site for updated information!
• There will also be a special event coming in May.... but shhhh.... we can't talk about it. Details to come soon!
• IDUG Boston has a new group site on Facebook. Please visit the site and join the group. Do a search for “IDUG Boston” at Facebook.com and join -- all are welcome!

SANDEE COHEN PRESENTATION: MOVING InDESIGN TO FLASH
The main component of the meeting was the presentation by author Sandee Cohen (Design Into Print, InDesignCS4 Visual Quickstart Guide, Fireworks Visual Quickstart Guide others).

Sandee started the evening with a presentation focused on using InDesign documents and Flash CS4together. Sandee’s energy came through in her presentation, which had good information, and was very entertaining. There was useful information there for both the beginner and the experienced user. We then moved to a trivia contest and game show: “So You Think You Know InDesign.”

What can I say?

Our contestants were all good sports, our host was lovely and entertaining, our announcer was handsome. The sound effects were great. All our contestants went home with a prize. Some went home with a book authored by Sandee. (Thanks Sandee! You rocked!)

The meeting was rounded out with our chapter raffle -- IDUG Boston holds a raffle at each regular meeting, and proceeds benefit the chapter operations. Thank you to all who participated!

Winners of the main prizes were:

• Kathy M. — Free year subscription to InDesign Magazine
• John Thompson — Free year subscription to InDesign Magazine
• Marilyn Gibson — InDesign CS4

Additional prizes included shirts, hats, and other memorabilia. Congratulations to all winners!

Thank you

The following is a list of individuals and groups who deserve extra thanks for supporting IDUG Boston and helping us in our continued efforts:

• Meg Young, Joe Blair and the entire staff of MassArt for providing a fantastic facility for our meetings and coordinating all the logistics that go with that.

• Dan Biron and AIR Graphics for continued printing support.

• InDesign Magazine for great raffle prizes and the membership discount program.

• Jennifer Ruble, Wendy Katz, and the staff of Adobe for making a great product and supporting our group with all our necessities!

A special thanks goes to the Steering Committee and members who participated in the coordination of this event. All involved are volunteers and are not paid for their services, so their work is acknowledged and commended. We encourage members to become involved in IDUG Boston, either by joining the Steering Committee or participating in some of the operations of the chapter. If you are interested in participating, please contact either of the organization’s co-chairpeople (Andrew Fintzel or Charles Linskey) at the chapter email: boston@indesignusergroup.com
