Thanks to all of you who came out to participate in our last meeting. It was great to see a lot of new faces. We had a good turnout with great dialogue and a nice mix of learning and sharing.

Philip Gomez of Sonlight Studios started us off by showing us the nuts and bolts of styling type in lists and tables. He covered the “Next Style” feature within paragraph styles to help make short work of long blocks of repetitive text. Then we saw how tables are put together and explored a great new feature in CS3—Table Styles! We also got a look at how useful Nested Styles and Anchored objects can be when used in blocks of text.

After a short break, Paul Olmeda showed us what we can do to give our designs more value in the real world by breaking down an InDesign file he created for a client, which was used to create printed material, an interactive PDF file, and a basic Web site—all starting with one file! The resulting PDF file had full navigation and a very interactive order form that one could easily fill out and email. The basic, quick, down and dirty website he created mimicked the PDF file all the way down to the order form, except everything was online, which expanded the client’s reach to potential customers. Throughout his demonstration he highlighted various differences between the CS2 software and the CS3 software he used on the project.
